    Welcome to the blog of Nathanael Boehm, 25-year-old Canberra web user interaction designer working for the Australian Government designing, prototyping, implementing and conducting usability testing for websites.

    My skills include HTML, CSS and JavaScript (including jQuery and YUI frameworks) front-end development following accessibility, usability, UCD/UFD and user experience guidelines and best practice as well as developing WordPress themes and customisations. I have a background in ASP, ASP.NET, C# and PHP web application development with MS SQL and MySQL databases.

    I am involved with Free Australia Wireless, OpenAustralia, BarCampCanberra, The Music Blogs, Aussie Bloggers and more.

    I am a musician and play the drums, percussion, bass guitar, keyboard, piano and synths and currently play drums and percussion for local alt-pop/folk band The Camals.

    I am also a photographer (Canon 400D, main lens Canon EF f/1.4 50mm) and regularly participate in the local Canberra flickr photographer group meets.

Yelena, my Mini Cooper SWhile I have ideas of the sort of photographer I’d like to be and photos I might one day be able to take, at the end of the day I just enjoy making a good looking photo. I don’t do it for a career and I don’t think I’d ever want to - to me photography should be relaxing, stress-free - to do it whenever you want to and when you have time. I don’t take a lot of photos - some months I’d be lucky to take a dozen. Often I’ll only take one photo of a subject, to challenge myself. I feel guilty about using a digital camera because it is convenient, and digital photography seems to have a lower threshold for being a good photographer than say 30 years ago. It can be easy to just rely on the camera’s automatic exposure and focussing functions and not taking the time and care to actually select an exposure and focus you want to achieve; those are elements of photography you need to think about and not just leave up to the camera to work out “technically” the best exposure/focus because it is art! Technology should just support the making of art, not take over it.

    Hi,you see that picture of the water?could you tell me in detail how you took it,i tried that and I get blurry image,and dont feel sad because you have a digital camera,i do to.You can do lots of stuff with that

    I used a crazy long telephoto lens … 300mm which on a Canon 400D is the equiv of 480mm. Plus the lens has a special kind of soft focus and bokeh inherent to the somewhat cheap nature of the lens :-)

    Love the photo of the barns! I’ve got a thing for barns anyway, and I really love that cross-processing type effect that you’ve achieved. How did you do that, if you don’t mind me asking?
